Concentration Measurement of Ammonia
At a French production site for Ammonia (NH3) and Nitric Acid (HNO3), the operator was relying for many years on a radiometric analyzer for the concentration measurement of a watery Ammonia solution. Besides the difficulties in handling the radioactive materials of the analyzer, the plant operator was observing that the measurement readings where unstable and differed from the laboratory samples.
It was figured out, that the inaccurate readings of the online measurement led to an over concentration of the Ammonia solution (between 0.5 to 1.0%) and thus to increased costs for the operator.
FLEXIM's PIOX S process analyzer was the answer to the operators problems. By non-intrusively measuring the sonic velocity of the ammonia solution, which stands in distinct relation to its concentration, PIOX S is the superior alternative for this application as it not only measures from the pipe wall outside but also does not need any radioactive material.
With the PIOX S process analyzer, the plant operator is now able to reliably measure the right concentration of the ammonia solution with an accuracy of 0.1 to 0.3% - always matching the laboratory results. Being very satisfied with the measurement system, the company decided to specify PIOX S for all ammonia and nitric acid applications at their plants.
Advantages:
- Non-intrusive online concentration (and flow) measurement - substitution of the inaccurate radioactive analyzer
- Reliable and accurate measurements matching laboratory samples
- Clean and safe solution - no risk of leakages
