Flow and Thermal Energy Measurements in the Beverage Industry
In 2009, a global manufacturer of bottling machines received the competence certification from TÜV SÜD to award the »enviro« seal, which stands for energy and media efficiency as well as environmental sustainability. The scope of the involved energy efficiency tasks includes electrical energy, compressed air as well as heat and cold monitoring. In the area of media efficiency, the »enviro« experts take a coser look at the consumption rates of gases and water.
But how can consumption be measured, where – in most cases – there is no permanently installed measuring equipment? Needless to say, non-invasively is the best option.
The »enviro« project team uses several FLUXUS G601 CA Energy portable meters, which are used both for their own development work as well as for plant inspections and audits. The engineers are particularly impressed by the amazing versatility of the ultrasonic measuring system: with the same device, they measure the flow rate of liquids and gases as well as liquid-based thermal energy flows, i.e. heating and cooling capacities.
It is particularly useful for the »enviro« measurement experts, that they can also measure compressed air flow rates non-invasively with the FLUXUS G601 CA Energy. Compressed air is an important medium particularly in beverage bottling and packaging namely for driving pneumatic machines as well as for inflating PET bottles. However, as it is very costly to generate, it is crucial to accurately monitor its consumption rates.
Advantages
- Non-invasive system for the measurement of liquids, gases, compressed air and thermal energy without any disturbance of normal production
- Effective development of energy efficiency potentials
- Temporary measuring points can be installed in next to no time and easily adapted to the respective measuring task
